As shown by events last week in Maryland’s legislature, there are people out there who do not support gay marriage: black legislators. Interestingly enough, the same people who struggled for equality, who more often than not personally experienced prejudice and discrimination, did not see the cause of legalizing same-sex marriage in Maryland as being equal to their struggle.
Support traditional marriage? Support the redefinition of marriage? Unless your name is John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Elena Kagan, Clarence Thomas, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, or Samuel Alito it doesn’t matter in the slightest. In an op-ed to the Arizona Daily Star President Barack Obama once again lived up to the mantra of “never let a crisis go to waste” by calling for new gun control measures.

We all knew this was inevitable. Yesterday the Wisconsin Senate took out any spending related measures in their collective bargaining bill, making a quorum unnecessary. They passed the bill 18-1 making all the bongo drum playing hippie protests outside the state capitol a massive waste of time.
As General Assembly sessions go, the Commonwealth of Virginia’s recently completed legislative session went with little drama and much compromise. Both Republicans and Democrats worked alongside each other, making numerous compromises and not falling into anarchy like Wisconsin.
