Shockingly, California has fallen deeper and deeper into debt and the only solution being offered by Democratic Governor Jerry Brown is…wait for it…tax increases!
California’s budget deficit has swelled to a projected $16 billion _ much larger than had been predicted just months ago _ and will force severe cuts to schools and public safety if voters fail to approve tax increases in November, Gov. Jerry Brown said Saturday.
The Democratic governor said the shortfall grew from $9.2 billion in January in part because tax collections have not come in as high as expected and the economy isn’t growing as fast as hoped for. The deficit has also risen because lawsuits and federal requirements have blocked billions of dollars in state cuts.
“This means we will have to go much farther and make cuts far greater than I asked for at the beginning of the year,” Brown said in an online video. “But we can’t fill this hole with cuts alone without doing severe damage to our schools. That’s why I’m bypassing the gridlock and asking you, the people of California, to approve a plan that avoids cuts to schools and public safety.”
How predictable. Instead of cutting ridiculous spending like the fish ladder to nowhere or the tattoo removal program, your governor is just going to claim that he can spend your hard earned money better than you can and take it from your pockets.
Californians, in 2010 you had a chance to elect a governor in in Meg Whitman who knew what the heck was going on in the country. She could’ve brought your debt down to sustainable levels until the economy picks up. Instead you elected Jerry Brown for the umpteenth time and he’s as clueless as he was the first time he was governor. Your economy will continue to tank, your taxes are going to explode, spending will continue to skyrocket, people will leave the state en masse, and you have no one to blame but yourselves. It will get a lot worse before it gets better.
If you want to see what your state could’ve looked like with conservative principles running the show then look to Virginia and Wisconsin where budgets are under control and the economies are growing.
Enjoy mass hysteria.
[For those who voted for Whitman, this post is not directed at you. You are great Americans and I feel your pain.]
